Flux foundation
A Foundation with Long-Term Commitment
Three decades of learning through dialogue
Since the early nineties Flux Foundation has supported both large and small initiatives centred on dialogue, reflection, and societal learning. Our work has taken place across different contexts and alongside a range of partners, shaped by changing conditions and concrete experience.
While the forms have varied, a core orientation has remained: dialogue – understood as shared inquiry rather than debate – with the capacity to provide contextual understanding, long-term resilience, and democratic competence.
In recent years, Flux has worked with partners including:
Although deeply inspired by quantum physicist David Bohm’s pioneering work on dialogue in the nineteen eighties, our current focus grows out of this accumulated experience, rather than from any single model, method, or movement.
Youth at the Centre – Generations in Dialogue
Youth dialogue – with responsibility across generations
Flux places youth dialogue at the centre of its work. Experience shows how early years can be formative for later ability to communicate under stress and complex conditions.
Young people will live with the consequences of decisions made today, yet they are often only marginally involved in the processes that shape them. Flux supports initiatives that create real spaces for engagement – where young people can meet peers across differences, and where their perspectives can enter the dialogue with those holding responsibility and power.
Experience shows that more sustainable responses tend to emerge when generations are able and willing to listen and think together – not necessarily to agree, but to broaden understanding and remain in dialogue.
Global Framework and Long-Term Orientation
Aligning dialogue with youth and responsibility for the future
In this context, our work resonates with principles articulated in the Pact for the Future (UN 2024), which emphasise:
meaningful youth participation
consideration of the interests of future generations in governance and policy
These principles align with Flux’s understanding of dialogue as early contribution to societal resilience- and competence-building, and with our corresponding conviction that societies are better equipped for the future when young people learn to engage constructively with difference, complexity and unrest.
About and Governance
About Flux Foundation
Flux Foundation is an independent philanthropic foundation, grounded in the conviction that dialogue is a fundamental human and societal necessity — particularly in times of disagreement and uncertainty.
Dialogue is understood not as debate or persuasion, but as shared inquiry in a space where assumptions can be examined, perspectives explored, and shared meaning allowed to emerge, even in the midst of disagreement. This understanding continues to guide Flux’s work with youth, across generations, and in support of long-term societal resilience.
Governance
Flux Foundation is governed by an independent board responsible for strategic direction, oversight, and stewardship. Governance emphasises integrity, independence and transparency.
